The next memory verse I chose for Drew was one of the “big ones” in our faith as Christians. This verse would be one he could cling to as God draws him near to him as well as when he shares his faith with others.
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
I found an activity for this verse that Drew and I did together. (Click here for the pdf.) I thought breaking it down by phrases would make this verse easier to memorize. But of course, in true boy fashion, he was more interested in finding other ways to play with his cut-outs. Like blowing one cut-out into the others to see how many he could knock down. 🙂
As the week progressed, I ended up going over the phrases with him in the car mostly, and after a few days he was able to memorize each phrase.
This verse was harder for him to memorize than the last ones. I was actually sharing this with his kindergarten teacher during parent-teacher conferences and she gave me some pointers to help him memorize it. She told me to explain the meaning of the more difficult words – like confess – and it will help him remember it better. She was right. By the end of the week, he had it down.
